I can hear a practised sigh.

Someone’s turning over a leaf,

I think they said it’s new,

but how do you know it isn’t just refurbished these days.

They’re twisting it over,

straining delicate veins,

flicking dew in their eye,

and a spider down the stem.

This ritual movement,

It might be a futile cycle of hope,

and desperation, but we do it all the same.

The real shame is,

no-one ever warns you there might be arachnids involved.
